Blue Ridge Parking Crisis, Mayor Donna Whitener holds listening meeting concerning parking

The lack of parking has reached a crisis point in the city of Blue Ridge. Mayor Donna Whitener invited the public to attend a listing meeting to hear what citizens and the business community thought about the parking crisis. Several comments concerning immediately solutions and long range planning.

State Senator Steve Gooch Talks About Economic Development in Rural Georgia

This past Friday we continued our discussion about rural Georgia with 51st district (R) State Senator and Lumpkin County’s economic development director, Steve Gooch. Our three areas of focus: rural Georgia economy, broadband access, and health care. Although the district doesn’t want to see something in the line of the KIA plant they most certainly would be open to small companies offering high paying, high tech jobs. In order to attract these types of companies; the area must provide good schools, fast internet, and quality health care. We discussed Piedmont Mountainside new stand alone emergency health care center in Gilmer County; a model for quality health care in rural areas. When our discussion turned to high speed internet for the area, Gooch was unable to say they “moved the ball” concerning Senate Bill 232, Facilitating Internet Broadband Rural Expansion (FIBRE) Act.
Senator David Perdue Interviews Blue Ridge Student In Senate Page Program
Community, Politics September 18, 2017WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) interviewed Evelyn Doss, a high school junior from Blue Ridge, Georgia, about her experience in the U.S. Senate Page Program on Facebook Live.
“Congratulations to Evelyn and her family on her acceptance into the Senate Page Program,” said Senator Perdue. “As an impressive young leader in her school and community, Evelyn has certainly earned this high honor, and I look forward to hearing about her continued success in the future.”
Evelyn is the first page Senator Perdue has appointed to the program. She is a student at Fannin County High School and participates in student government, mock trial, and drama club. Evelyn is also a member of the National Honor Society and plays the flute in her school’s band.
