Student Death Under Investigation at Truett McConnell University

CLEVELAND, Ga. — Authorities are investigating after a student was found dead Sunday at Truett McConnell University in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Police Department said officers were called to the university shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sept. 20 following a report of an unresponsive person inside one of the campus apartments.

Officers found a male student deceased inside the apartment. The student has not been publicly identified.

The White County Coroner’s Office transported the student’s body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.

As of Monday afternoon, Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker said foul play is not suspected.

Truett McConnell University issued a statement Monday afternoon acknowledging the student’s death and offering support to members of the campus community.

“Our community is heartbroken, and our prayers are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all who are grieving,” the university said. “We are providing counseling, pastoral care, and other support to students, faculty, and staff affected by this loss.”
