Canon Woman Charged With Murder After Vehicle Strikes and Kills Man During Domestic Incident

CANON, Ga. — A 32-year-old Canon woman has been arrested and charged with murder and multiple other offenses following a domestic violence incident Thursday night that resulted in the death of a man, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Franklin County 911 received a report of the incident on Cheek Drive in Canon at approximately 10:21 p.m. Sept. 17. Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and Franklin County EMS responded to the scene.

Investigators said the incident involved a vehicle driven by a woman who drove toward at least two people at the scene, striking one of them.

The victim, identified as Roy Adam Gentry of Canon, was flown by helicopter to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. He later died from his injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred in the presence of at least two minor children.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Georgia State Patrol and its Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Franklin County EMS and Franklin County 911.

Lisa Marie Peeples, 32, of Canon, was arrested and charged with:

• Malice murder
• Felony murder
• Aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act
• Aggravated assault
• Homicide by vehicle in the first degree — DUI
• Homicide by vehicle in the first degree — reckless driving
• Two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree
• Two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree
• DUI
• Hit and run
• Reckless driving

The sheriff’s office said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

The case is expected to be presented to the Franklin County Grand Jury during its next session.

The sheriff’s office credited responding deputies, EMS personnel, Georgia State Patrol investigators, GBI agents, 911 dispatchers and other first responders for their work at the scene and during the investigation.
