McCAYSVILLE, Ga. — A manhunt is underway in north Georgia after a McCaysville police captain was critically injured while responding to a call late Friday night.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Timothy Craig Ramsey, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer. Authorities say Ramsey, described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, about 185 pounds, with long hair and blue eyes, was last seen on foot near 1st Street in McCaysville. He was reportedly wearing a green shirt, dark pants, and a dark motorcycle helmet at the time of the incident.

Police warned the public that Ramsey is armed and extremely dangerous.

“We strongly urge the public not to approach him,” Chief Michael Otis Earley said during a press conference Saturday. “If you see Timothy Craig Ramsey or have any information about his whereabouts, please dial 911 immediately.”

Multiple agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, and other local, state, and federal partners, are assisting in the search.

“The safety of our community remains our top priority, and we will not rest until Timothy Ramsey is apprehended and justice is served,” Earley said.

Authorities are asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the search continues.
