McCaysville Police Captain Showing Signs of Improvement After Shooting

McCAYSVILLE, Ga. — Captain Brantley Worley of the McCaysville Police Department is showing encouraging signs of recovery after being critically injured in a shooting late Friday night, according to city officials.

In an update released Saturday evening, Public Safety Director and Police Chief Michael Otis Earley said that Worley was able to speak with colleagues during a hospital visit and no brain surgery will be required. Doctors are hopeful he may soon be moved out of the intensive care unit.

“The power of prayer and God’s healing hand is stronger than the evil act committed against our officer,” Chief Earley said in a statement. “By God’s grace, he was able to speak with us. The doctors have confirmed that no brain surgery will be needed, and there is hope he may soon be moved out of ICU.”

Earley expressed deep gratitude for the community’s support in the wake of the incident, crediting not only residents but also law enforcement partners, emergency medical services, firefighters, and dispatchers for rallying around Worley and his family.

“I cannot express enough the gratitude I feel for the incredible outpouring of love and support,” he said.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the investigation into the shooting, which occurred around 11:10 p.m. on September 12 while Worley was responding to a call for service. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.

City officials are asking the public to continue keeping Captain Worley in their thoughts and prayers as he continues his recovery.
