HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. – A man is facing multiple felony charges following a reported road rage incident that escalated to gunfire, according to authorities.
Cpl. Jamie Johnson responded to the incident after it had already occurred and began gathering information from witnesses. Investigators say the suspect, identified as Brent Besosa, allegedly accelerated behind another vehicle before the situation intensified.
According to witness accounts, the victim’s vehicle moved into the right-hand lane to allow Besosa to pass. Instead, Besosa reportedly pulled alongside the vehicle. Moments later, the driver and passenger heard a loud bang, prompting concern that a weapon may have been discharged.
The victims then turned onto another roadway, but authorities say Besosa followed them. During the pursuit, both occupants reported seeing Besosa display a firearm before he fled the area.
A be-on-the-lookout alert was issued for the suspect’s vehicle. Deputies in Polk County later located and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Cpl. Johnson responded to the scene, where he interviewed Besosa and subsequently placed him under arrest.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, authorities reported finding a firearm in the driver’s side door panel that appeared to have been recently fired.
Besosa has been charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and two counts of reckless conduct.
Officials are reminding drivers to remain calm in tense situations on the road and to avoid confrontations that could escalate into violence.
