LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to remain cautious after receiving multiple reports of door-to-door pest control solicitors operating in residential neighborhoods.
According to the agency, several individuals described as white males have been traveling through subdivisions using single-wheel electric devices, commonly known as “one-wheels,” while claiming to represent a company identified as BRD Pest LLC, also referred to as BRD Pest Solutions.
Authorities say the individuals are reportedly dropped off in neighborhoods by a separate vehicle, which is then parked nearby. The vehicles associated with the activity have been described as having Utah license plates.
Residents told deputies the solicitors carry tablet devices and ask for electronic signatures. In multiple cases, individuals believed they were signing a simple acknowledgment of contact or receipt of information. However, it was later discovered the signatures may have been applied to service agreements or contracts that include terms for ongoing pest control services.
A review of business records shows that BRD Pest LLC is a registered company. However, the sheriff’s office said it is still working to determine whether the individuals conducting the door-to-door activity are properly authorized, licensed, and operating in compliance with Georgia law and consumer protection requirements.
Officials also noted that while licensing records indicate a certified pesticide applicator is associated with the company, that alone does not confirm all individuals involved in the solicitations are properly credentialed.
At this time, authorities say they have not confirmed criminal intent in every reported incident. Still, the nature of the complaints has raised concerns about potential deceptive sales practices and misunderstandings during the signing process.
The sheriff’s office is advising residents to take precautions when approached by door-to-door solicitors. Officials recommend not signing any documents—paper or electronic—without fully reviewing and understanding the contents, and to remember that electronic signatures can be legally binding.
Residents are also encouraged to request identification, verify licensing for pest control services in Georgia, and avoid relying solely on verbal explanations of documents. If uncertain, officials recommend declining to sign and requesting written information to review later.
Anyone who encounters suspicious or misleading activity, or believes they may have unknowingly entered into a service agreement, is encouraged to contact the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office at 706-864-0414 for assistance.
