GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, Georgia has issued a special weather statement warning of elevated fire danger across parts of North Georgia on Tuesday.
Forecasters say relative humidity levels are expected to drop to 25 percent or lower for at least four hours during the afternoon and evening, creating conditions favorable for the rapid spread of fires. Winds are expected to be out of the east at 7 to 10 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 15 to 20 miles per hour.
When combined with dry vegetation, these conditions significantly increase the risk of wildfires.
Officials are urging residents to use caution with any outdoor burning or open flames, as even small sparks could quickly ignite and spread under these conditions.
