I had the privilege of serving as Character Development Officer in the Air Force Civil Air Patrol. During the Obama administration, my squadron commander advised me of a Department of Defense order that prohibited military chaplains from praying in the name of Jesus. Before I could respond, he ordered me to ignore the order, and if we lost our commissions, so be it. I commented my commander and reminded him of the words of Jesus, “If you confess me before men, I will confess you before my Father,” Matthew 10:3

The children’s game of hide-and-seek has the words: Ready or not, here I come. Hebrews 9:28, “. . . He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for Him.” Skeptics say the word RAPTURE is not found in the Bible. They are correct. The Apostle Paul used the words “caught-up” to describe a future event when the church will be suddenly taken-up to heaven. When a catholic monk was translating scripture to Latin, he used the word rapturo, meaning snatched-up, thus the modern term rapture . In contract law, an escape clause is used to provide a party the opportunity to cancel the agreement under certain conditions. Escape from a world gone mad is conditional upon accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord. For those who have, Jesus said, ” . . . look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Christian actress Roma Downey has co-produced a movie, RESURRECTION, which will premier tomorrow, Saturday, March 27th on Discovery+ T.V. Stream. She wrote, “I think believers will love the story, but it’s exciting to me that maybe someone who doesn’t know the story, it’ll open their hearts.” John 11:25, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me shall never die.”

Topic: Best Laid Plans
Connie ten Boom wrote, “God has no problems, only plans.”      Jesus said in this world  we would have trouble (problems).              He completed His statement with words of encouragement; He has overcome this world. If we find ourselves overcome by life, read Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans for good, and not evil; plans for a future and hope.”

John 9:25, ” . . . I was blind, now I see.” John Newton’s song, AMAZING GRACE, incorporates these words. An eye exam revealed   I had cataracts that impaired my vision. Surgery removed them; implant lenses provided sharper images, and brighter colors. There’s one sight medical science cannot restore: Spiritual Insight. Wisdom (James 1:5) comes by way of The Word. I’ll close with these song lyrics, “I can see clearly now.”

The U.S. Postal Service receives letters addressed to GOD. They are placed in a Dead Letter Bend; but not dead to God.  Each letter is a request for help: a job, a spouse, for healing, and other needs. Philippians 4:6, “Be not anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer . . . let your requests be known to God.” Let’s write God today.

In the T.V. episodes of THE GOOD PLACE, people die and arrive in a good place where they believe if they become a better person, they earn the privilege of staying. Nice try Hollywood, but no re-takes. Ephesians 2:8, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

Ephesians 1:14, “The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised.” I served as executor of my parents estate. They worked hard to provide for their children, even providing left-overs. As children of God, we stand to inherit the riches of His Kingdom. Romans 8:16, “The Spirit Himself bears witness that we are children of God. v.17 and if children, then heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ . . .” Glory to God!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Inspiration speaker Dale Carnegie wrote that happiness is getting what you want. Dale was wrong. In the mid 1990’s ABC TV aired a one-hour special on Happiness. A young lady who won a 26 million dollar lottery was ask if it made her happy; she replied “Not really.” Troy Aikman, MVP of SuperBowl XXV11 was ask if he was happy; his response was “Is this all there is?” Members of the Royal Family were interviewed to see if their position made them happy; all said “No.”  A new job, home, or car may produce temporary happiness; but there’s always something better to wish for. So, how can we have a Happy New Year? The Bible answers that in Psalm 144:15, “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord.”

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (paraphrase) Let those of us who live in the light wear faith and love, and a helmet of hope. I read about a couple who discovered in an attic trunk, the torn, dirt and blood stained jersey of pro football running back Gayle Sayers of the Chicago Bears. The wife remembered that her dad has season tickets during that time, but didn’t know how he got the jersey. It was valued at $30,000; the appraiser explained the battering this jersey took made it more valuable. Battered believers are valued by God for we have been hit multiple times, but get up to run another play.

Exodus 20:3, “You shall have no other gods before Me.”  D.L.Moody wrote, “Whatever you love more than God is your idol.”  I was invited to be the guest speaker at a Christian men’s dinner.  After reciting Exodus 20:3, I advised the men we carry an idol in our pockets; pulling out a $1.00 bill and waiving it in the air. Show-and-tell time. After sharing stories of fortune seekers suffering from depression, I shared this scripture: 1 Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil . . .” Deuteronomy 6:5, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.”

J. Greham Machen wrote, “Nothing surprises God; all things that happen are absolutely certain from all eternity because they are all embraced in God’s eternal plan.” I don’t understand why things happen the way they do; but I’m glad to know the One who does. Regardless of what’s happening with government, the stock market, or terrorism, we know He has a personal plan for each of us. Claim God’s promise as written in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Proverbs 19:5, “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape.”  Truth is relative today; its what an individual thinks is true, even if it’s not. I’m bothered that people believe what they’re told, rather than investigating the facts. I learned early on in my insurance career not to accept the word of others. FAKE NEWS by agencies has shaped the minds of listeners. Jesus called Satan the father of lies. Roger Ailes took over Fox News in 2001 and moved the station to what he calls a “fair and balanced truth from a conservative perspective”  God’s word is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

I read a story about a little girl who was frightened during a thunderstorm at night. She ran to her parents and jumped into their bed. Her father said, “Don’t worry Honey, the Lord will protect you.” She responded, “I know Daddy, but right now, I need someone with skin on.” Because Jesus is God with skin on, we can run to Him when sudden storms hit hard. One day we will see Him with skin on, including scars; until then His Holy Spirit lives within us to protect and comfort us. Colossians 3:15, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts.”

Faith for this Day

Religion

God and His word are one. God will back up everything that He promises. Not only will He back It, but His throne is back of it. He said, “I watch over my word to perform it.” God is a business man. He knows that His Word is the foundation of everything, so He stands back of it, and so can you. Our faith is gauged by our confession, and we will never believe beyond our confession. Every time we confess weakness and failure and doubt and fear, we go to the level of them.

Psalms 119:89 “Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.”

Father God does not respond to pain, suffering or sorrow. He responds to faith.

Rom 1:17.The  Apostel Paul said, “Now the just shall live by faith.” When the hurting sinner cries out “Lord help me or “Lord save me”, that prayer gets answered every time.  After you are born again and become a child of God, He expects you to get to know Him so He can guide and direct your life. This knowledge can only happen when you build up your faith, and this faith comes from hearing His word.

Jer15:16 Jeremiah said,”Thy words were found, and I did eat them, and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.” I think Father God responds first to His children who love, trust and depend on Him, those that have found rest and peace in his love. They are secure in Him as Father

Matt21:22 Jesus said,“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

Jesus said Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall never pass away. If my friend, you can believe what He said, you can have what He promised, and you will become a person of faith.

Belief, my friend, is the true solid platform of faith that you can build, and stand on.  God said He watches over His word to perform it. Jesus said Heaven and earth will pass away before it changes.

Psalms119:105 says, ”Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”You just have to walk it outon that path.

The Word of God is a Living Thing. When you let it loose on you, it is letting God loose in you.

When you dare act on the Word and speak the Word, God will be in the words that you speak.

Luke 4:18 Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised.” You can put your faith right here because Father God cares about you, and He has sent His Precious Son, to tell you so.If you think about it, this verse is like Father God just wants to wrap His arms around you, and take care of you.

The Lord Jesus wants you to hear the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, today. If you are brokenhearted, He wants to heal you. Do you feel captive, or bound up in your circumstances today?  Jesus wants to set you free. He wants to open your eyes and heal your bruises.

We seem to have very little real active faith in our wonderful, magnificent, God, Father, Lord, Savior, Redeemer, Comforter, and Friend.

Jesus said,” All power in heaven and earth has been given unto Me.” That is a lot of power!  Jesus offers us this same power. How do we get our hands on this power? His power for living today?

Luke 19:10, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which is lost.” That was you. He first found you. He saved you. Now He empowers you to live for Him. The power is yours for the asking. Let’s flip this verse over.

Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. You must have the faith to believe Him.

Matt21:22 Jesus said,” And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Come on my friend go for it, and believe it all.  God responds to faith.

What is faith? Heb.11:1 Says: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  Faith has substance, and substance gives us something to work with.

Faith is what you hold on to until the thing that you are praying for comes into your hands.   How do we get the substance?  By hearing The Word of God, and then hearing it again in your spirit and getting it down deep enough to believe it.

Faith starts working for us when we know who we are in Christ Jesus and have taken our proper place in the Kingdom of God. When we have ordered our lives according to God’s word, and His will. Faith works by love.  Love powers faith.  How’s your love life with Jesus?

I love God’s people and because they are His, I have a great interest in their ways, and in their well-being. I watch the struggles and the battles among God’s people.  I notice one of our great weaknesses seems to be a lack of faith, and not being rooted and grounded in what the Word of God says.

Don’t forget; His word is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path; so spend more time on the lighted pathway to your blessings.
