Man saved from fire in Paulding County

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. – A 46-year-old man was rescued from a house fire by Paulding County Fire Department Monday afternoon.

Around 2:00 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 4, members of a family in Dallas called 911 call to inform them of a house fire and that a loved one was still trapped inside.

Pickens County Fire Department was dispatched to the house fire on Macland Road.

Fortunately, Pickens County Fire Department’s Deputy Chief Brandon Newsome and Division Chief Kevin Hart were in the area when the call was received.

Within two minutes, The Deputy Chief and a Division Chief arrived on the scene.

They were able to confirm that there was a man trapped inside and executed an initial rescue attempt with the help of four Paulding County Sheriff’s Deputies that arrived at the scene shortly after them.

The first rescue attempt was unsuccessful as personnel were kept out by the blowing smoke and heat.

Forty-five seconds later, Engine 3 arrived at the scene and were able to conduct a rescue with the information that personnel on the scene had already gathered.

They located a semi-conscious victim and he was pulled to safety.

Life-saving aid was then administered  to the victim.

Additional crews arrived on the scene to help successfully put out the house fire.

The victim was identified at 46-year-old man. He was flown by a helicopter to Wellstar Cobb’s Burn Unit.

He remains in serious condition; however, Paulding County Fire Department officials have praised the live saving work of their team.

Newsome praised the hard-work of his team and told media that it is just something that comes with the job.

“The thing we do is protect life – fire department, law enforcement, that’s what you do,” Newsome said.
