Pickens County Firefighters work to extinguish ‘suspicious’ structure fire

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga – Pickens Fire and Jasper Fire were dispatched to a reported structure fire Saturday morning, Oct. 28,  around 1:15 AM on Elizabeth Street in the city.

The first arriving Engine-1 reported heavy fire on second level and venting through the roof.

According to Pickens County Fire and Rescue, multiple attack lines were immediately initiated to begin the fire attack with Engine 20 laying approximately 900 feet of water supply line.

Pickens County Fire and Rescue said it took approximately an hour to get the stubborn fire under control with several firefighters on scene.

The incident required extensive overhaul and it was not until around 5:30 a.m. that units were able to begin to be released from the scene.

The home was reported vacant, but firefighters still conducted primary and secondary search for any possible occupants and eventually cleared the residence.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters. Responding units were Jasper Fire Engine-1, Ladder-1, Pickens Fire Engine 11, Engine 20, Engine 51, Med 2, Med 11, Med 5, Rehab 8, County Fire Marshal and 1101.

Fire is suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation.
