FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. — Residents served by the City of McCaysville water system are being urged to continue conserving water and to follow a boil water advisory after days of heavy rainfall and severe storms caused significant damage to the city’s water infrastructure.

The City of McCaysville announced that it remains under a water conservation request as crews work to repair extensive damage to water utility lines and the city’s water treatment plant.

City officials said residents should expect the conservation request to remain in effect for approximately two to three weeks, or until repairs are completed and the system returns to full operating capacity.

In addition, a boil water advisory remains in effect for all City of McCaysville water customers. Officials are advising customers to boil water before drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or preparing food until the advisory is lifted.

The announcement comes after several days of heavy rain and thunderstorms that impacted portions of Fannin County, where repeated rounds of rainfall led to flash flooding concerns and damage to infrastructure. To assist residents affected by the water outage, bottled water is being distributed daily through the drive-through at McCaysville City Hall from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

City officials said updates will be provided as additional information becomes available and encouraged residents to continue following official announcements until both the boil water advisory and conservation request have been lifted.
