Bear Killed in Collision on Reed Creek Highway in Hart County

HART COUNTY, Ga. — A bear was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Reed Creek Highway in Hart County on Saturday afternoon, according to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 3300 block of Reed Creek Highway just before 3 p.m. on June 13 following reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a bear.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Equinox was traveling toward Hartwell when the bear entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.

The driver was not injured in the collision, though the vehicle sustained minor damage.

The bear died as a result of the crash, officials said. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified and responded in accordance with protocol.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to remain alert for wildlife, particularly during dawn and dusk when animals are most active and more likely to enter roadways unexpectedly.

The incident remains under the jurisdiction of responding authorities.
