GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for a 40-year-old man who authorities say is wanted on a felony weapons charge and was reported carrying and firing a rifle in residential areas late Friday.

According to the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are attempting to locate Terry Franklin Turner, who has an active arrest warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of Georgia law.

Deputies responded to multiple calls on Friday, December 26, reporting a man behaving erratically while armed with a rifle. Witnesses told authorities the individual fired the weapon and chased wildlife in the area. Despite an extensive search, deputies have not yet been able to locate Turner.

Law enforcement said Turner has been reported on foot in several areas across the county, including Nugget Lane and Pebble Court, the Woodridge and Oak Ridge communities, Cameron Drive, and the Tails Creek Road and Highway 282 corridor. Officials said he has been seen moving through yards, driveways, wooded areas, and near residences.

Authorities are urging the public not to approach Turner. The sheriff’s office warned that anyone found aiding or abetting him could face criminal charges.

Anyone who sees Turner or has information about his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or contact Gilmer County Dispatch at 706-635-8911 immediately.
