Tennessee Fugitive Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit in Calhoun County

GORDON COUNTY, Ga. – A Tennessee fugitive wanted on an attempted murder charge was taken into custody Friday night following a high-speed vehicle pursuit that ended in Calhoun County, according to Sheriff Mitch Ralston.

The pursuit began around 8:15 p.m. when Calhoun County deputy sheriffs were asked to assist the Calhoun Police Department in tracking a suspect who was fleeing law enforcement. Authorities said the suspect was traveling eastbound on State Route 156, also known as Red Bud Road, after the pursuit originated in Calhoun.

Law enforcement reported the suspect, who was driving a truck, reached speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour and drove recklessly into oncoming traffic, creating what officials described as a dangerous situation for motorists.

Just east of Red Bud Road, a Calhoun County deputy performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, forcing the suspect’s vehicle off the roadway. The truck crashed down an embankment, and the suspect was apprehended without further resistance.

The criminal investigation is being led by the Calhoun Police Department in coordination with Tennessee authorities. Officials confirmed there are no additional suspects and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
