Suspended Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges Following GBI Investigation

HIAWASSEE, Ga. — Suspended Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson was arrested Thursday and charged with multiple felonies following a Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigation into an alleged financial transaction involving a Towns County Sheriff’s Office bank account.

According to the GBI, Henderson, 67, of Young Harris, has been charged with theft by deception, false statements and writings, sale of real or personal property to a political subdivision by a local officer or employee, and three counts of violation of oath of office.

The investigation was launched at the request of the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office on May 28 after a Towns County annual audit identified concerns involving a financial transaction.

Investigators allege the investigation determined that a check was written to Henderson from one of the Towns County Sheriff’s Office bank accounts.

Henderson was booked into the Towns County Detention Center.

The GBI said the investigation remains active. Once completed, the case file will be submitted to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution. The office was appointed by the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia to handle both this investigation and a previous GBI investigation involving Henderson.
