Suspect Wanted in 2025 Rome Murder Captured in North Carolina

ROME, Ga. — A 23-year-old man wanted in connection with the 2025 shooting death of an 18-year-old in Rome has been captured in North Carolina, according to the Rome Police Department.

Treveonsay Trejion Burge, 23, was taken into custody in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Burge was wanted in connection with the Oct. 21, 2025, shooting death of Adam Taylor Hernandez, 18, in Rome.

Authorities said Burge faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with Hernandez’s death.

Burge is currently being held without bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center in Shelby, North Carolina. Police said he also faces additional charges related to his arrest in North Carolina. Details regarding those charges were not immediately released.

The Rome Police Department credited multiple law enforcement agencies with assisting in the investigation and Burge’s apprehension, including the U.S. Marshals Service, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Shelby Police Department.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding when Burge could be returned to Georgia to face the charges against him.

The charges against Burge are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
