PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — A suspect connected to a child molestation investigation was found deceased Thursday afternoon after law enforcement responded to a residence in Pickens County.
According to officials, deputies with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a home off Beaver Ridge Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. to execute an arrest warrant related to the investigation.
While deputies were knocking on the door, authorities reported hearing a single gunshot from inside the residence. Deputies immediately retreated from the home, secured the surrounding area, and obtained a search warrant. Assistance was then requested from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.
SWAT members later entered the residence and located the subject deceased from what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials have not released the name of the individual at this time, citing the ongoing investigation.
Authorities confirmed no deputies or members of the public were injured during the incident.
The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
