PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. – On March 29, Pickens Fire was dispatched to a reported aircraft crash near the intersection of Hwy. 53 West and Garrison Road.
According to Pickens County Fire and Rescue, The first arriving unit reported a small engine plane on the ground at the Garrison Road intersection.
It appeared to have struck an electrical pole and the occupant was still in the plane.
There was also a brush fire just East of the crash site.
Fire & EMS personnel immediately gained access and removed the pilot from the plane.
Air Life 3 was requested to the scene to transport patient to a trauma center.
Engine-11 was assigned to control the brush fire believed to have been started from a sparking transformer related to the crash.
Fire was quickly brought under control. No injuries to fire personnel. Responding units were Engine 11, Med 11, Battalion 11, Engine 5, Med 5, 1101 and 1120.
