Online Threat Against Pickens High School Determined Not to Be Viable

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. – An online threat directed at Pickens High School prompted a soft lockdown Tuesday as the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office investigated the report.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were notified Tuesday morning of a threat made online against the school. School officials placed the campus under a soft lockdown while law enforcement investigated.

Investigators worked with state and federal law enforcement partners and determined the threat originated from outside Georgia. Authorities said their partners confirmed similar threats have recently been directed at other schools.

Based on the investigation, authorities determined there is no viable threat to students or the school.

Additional deputies will remain on the Pickens High School campus throughout the remainder of the day as a precaution.

The sheriff’s office thanked school officials, students and families for their cooperation during the investigation.
