Martin Woman Arrested on Methamphetamine Trafficking Charges After Traffic Stop

STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. – A 51-year-old Martin woman was arrested Monday after deputies reportedly found approximately six ounces of suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Stephens County.

According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Crime Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop on a gray pickup truck at approximately 1 p.m. Sept. 7 in the area of North Red Hollow Road.

The driver was identified as Tameka Williams, who had been the subject of a narcotics investigation since June, according to investigators.

The sheriff’s office said its Narcotics Unit had been investigating Williams for her alleged involvement in the trafficking and distribution of methamphetamine in and around Stephens County. Investigators reportedly learned that Williams traveled from a residence in Martin to various parts of the state, using multiple vehicles to obtain large quantities of methamphetamine before returning to Stephens County to distribute the drug.

During Monday’s traffic stop, deputies asked Williams to exit the vehicle. As she did so, deputies reportedly observed her attempting to conceal a plastic bag containing a white, crystal-like substance.

Deputies also detected the odor of marijuana, and Williams allegedly admitted to recently smoking marijuana and being under the influence.

Further investigation reportedly determined that the substance in the bag was suspected methamphetamine. Deputies said Williams then removed five additional bags containing suspected methamphetamine from her person.

Authorities said each of the six bags weighed approximately 28 grams, or one ounce, and appeared to have been divided for distribution. A field test conducted by deputies and narcotics agents reportedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.

Approximately six ounces of suspected methamphetamine were seized as evidence, along with $1,522 in cash that deputies reportedly found inside the vehicle.

Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Stephens County Detention Center without incident. She remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing before a Stephens County magistrate court judge.

Williams faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine.

“We are committed to curbing the flow of illegal drug activity in Stephens County,” Sheriff Rusty Fulbright said. “I want to commend our CSU deputies and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) agents for their hard work throughout this investigation. We are fostering a Safer, Stronger Stephens by getting another individual off the streets thanks to their diligence.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information regarding illegal drug or gang activity in Stephens County is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Division Tip Line at (706) 886-7048 or submit a tip through the sheriff’s office mobile app.

Williams’ charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
