Listeria Outbreak Brie and Camembert cheeses Recalls

BREAKING NEWS- The CDC reports a listeria outbreak in Brie and Camembert cheeses sold nationwide in the U.S and Mexico.

At this time there have only been six reported illnesses and one hospitalization in relation to the outbreak. The states that so far have reported illnesses are California, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

To view the brands on recall visit https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/outbreaks/monocytogenes-09-22/index.html?fbclid=IwAR2AMdpt1kRTOre6PBaKGszvpvMuAy7n1YE8BZNy6OpQwS16aUrl5pmVInk. According to the CDC, listeria is especially harmful to people 65 and older, pregnant, and with weakened immune systems.

The symptoms of severe illness usually start within 2 weeks after eating food contaminated with Listeria but may start as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after.

    • People who are not pregnant may experience headaches, stiff necks, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, in addition to fever and muscle aches.
    • Pregnant people usually experience only fever, fatigue, and muscle aches. However, Listeria can cause pregnancy loss or premature birth. It can also cause serious illness or death in newborns.

Other people can be infected with Listeria, but they usually get mild food poisoning symptoms, like diarrhea and fever, and usually recover without treatment. Recall brands should be thrown away and if symptoms begin to show up contact a medical professional.
