Investigation Ongoing After Domestic Dispute Shooting in Chattooga County

CHATTOOGA COUNTY, Ga. – Investigators with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding a shooting that occurred Sunday night at a residence along Highway 337 between the Teloga and Chelsea communities.

According to Sheriff Mark A. Schrader, preliminary findings indicate the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute involving a 61-year-old father, Miles Bagley, and his 34-year-old son, Isaiah Bagley. Investigators say the son had returned home from a friend’s house in a highly intoxicated state, which led to an escalating confrontation inside the residence.

Authorities report that both the father and mother attempted multiple times to calm the situation by encouraging the son to go to his bedroom and remain there, but those efforts were unsuccessful. The sheriff’s office said the son continued to confront his father, getting into his face, head-butting him multiple times, and making threats toward both parents.

During the confrontation, investigators say the father retrieved a small handgun from a nearby table and fired a shot into the floor in an attempt to deter his son. The situation escalated further when the father was allegedly pushed down, forced out the front door, and onto the porch. As the son approached him again while he was on the porch, the father fired the weapon, striking his son three times. At some point during the incident, the mother also fell onto the porch, according to investigators.

The son was transported to an area hospital, where he is currently being treated for his injuries. The sheriff’s office said no charges have been filed against the father at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities emphasized that the findings released so far are preliminary and that the case will continue to be reviewed as investigators work to determine whether any charges are warranted.
