GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Gainesville, GA. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Monday, April 10, 2023.
One man was shot and taken to jail after treatment. No officers were injured during this incident.
Preliminary information indicates that just after 2:00 p.m., members of the HCSO Warrant Unit, along with Gainesville Police Department officers and a GBI agent, were at a home on Brand Drive to arrest Jason William Grindle, age 34, on outstanding warrants.
Grindle had warrants from multiple jurisdictions for a variety of felony charges. When officers encountered Grindle outside of the home, he was armed with a handgun.
HCSO deputies exchanged gunfire with Grindle and he was shot. Medical aid was rendered to Grindle until EMS arrived. Grindle was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released and then taken to the Hall County Detention Center.
Additional charges against Grindle are anticipated.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
