Four-Wheeler Driver Arrested After Attempting to Flee Gilmer Deputies

GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – A four-wheeler driver faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from Gilmer County deputies, crashing the ATV and continuing to run from authorities on foot.
According to the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducting traffic enforcement Thursday afternoon observed a man riding a four-wheeler run a stop sign and cross several lanes of traffic without stopping.
Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly fled.
The driver eventually entered a logging road while continuing to flee. According to the sheriff’s office, the man repeatedly looked back toward pursuing deputies as he traveled.
The four-wheeler struck a washout rut in the road, causing the ATV to stop abruptly. The driver was thrown over the handlebars.
The man then got back up and continued fleeing on foot, according to authorities.
As he ran, the four-wheeler overturned and struck the man.
Despite the crash, the man continued running downhill. A deputy pursued him on foot and eventually caught him. With assistance from another deputy, the man was taken into custody.
Emergency medical personnel responded to treat injuries the man sustained during the incident, and he was transported to a hospital.
The driver was cited for fleeing or attempting to elude, operating without a helmet, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
