Former Cornelia Fire Department Assistant Chief arrested

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. – Shane Bentley, the former Cornelia Fire Department Assistant Chief was arrested on Feb. 2 for allegations of forgery and theft.

Bentley has officially been charged with one count of first-degree forgery and one count of theft by taking.

According to a release from the GBI, an investigation was requested by the Cornelia Police Department to look into allegations of forgery.

The investigation looked into ‘a forgery identified by the police department surrounding a donation of gear to the fire department from another fire department.’

“In addition, the items that were donated were not all accounted for after a Cornelia Fire Department inventory,” according to the release.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Mountain Judicial Circuit for prosecution.
