Wanted man captured and arrested

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. – On Thursday, May 23, 2024, members of the Haralson County Crime Suppression Unit and the Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force were in the area of Old Highway 100 in reference to an investigation.

Sgt. Trenton Benson observed a wanted person out of another jurisdiction and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Old Highway 100 and Thomas Road and the driver accelerated.

The driver was driving on the wrong side of the roadway and driving around 70 miles per hour during the pursuit.

At 1170 Old Highway 100, the driver drove off the roadway and into a back yard where he jumped out of the truck, dropped a firearm, and ran into the woods.

A short foot chase ensued, and Sgt. Benson was able to take the suspect into custody.

When the driver, now identified as Shannon Cook, was searched, he had methamphetamine and marijuana on his person.

A second firearm was located inside the truck along with scales that had methamphetamine residue on it.

Shannon Dewayne Cook, a 48-year-old W/M out of Tallapoosa, GA was arrested and has been charged with 2 counts of Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, 2 counts of Possession of Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Obstruction, Possession of Methamphetamine, and other traffic offenses.

“Our Crime Suppression Unit continues to make a difference across the county one arrest at a time,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “We will continue to target the areas that we receive crime and drug tips about, and we will continue to work to make the citizens of Haralson County safer by searching for these felons and making these arrests.” Sheriff Williams adds, “we will not tolerate drug dealing in this county and we will use every available resource at our disposal to hunt these people down and bring them to justice for peddling this poison to our residents.”
