Fannin well prepared in response to safety concerns

FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. – Following reports of a school shooting threat at Fannin County High School, FCHS Principal Ramsey and Superintendent Gwatney released a prompt statement to parents and students.

Gwatney told FYN reporters that he and Ramsey had both been in contact with a Fannin County Sheriff’s Office throughout the day yesterday, including Sheriff Kirby.

Based on their findings, Gawtney said he wanted to assure the Fannin Community that the reports were ‘unsubstantiated’.

“Based on Dr. Ramsey’s investigations, as well as information from law enforcement, we agreed that a statement to the FCHS community would help with the misinformation that was being spread on social media,” said Gawtney.

The following statement was released to the parents and students of Fannin County Schools:

“Good Evening, This is Dr. Ramsey principal at FCHS.  I wanted to reach out to our FCHS community to provide some reassurance concerning school tomorrow.  I know that many of you are hearing rumors of threats against our school. so I wanted to put your minds at ease.  As a school system we have been in conversations with local law enforcement including Sheriff Kirby.  After following up on all the information we have found these threats to be unsubstantiated, however out of an abundance of caution there will be an increased law enforcement presence at the high school throughout the day tomorrow.  Please know that the safety of your children is always going to be the top priority for us.  Again, out of an abundance of caution there will be additional officers on campus throughout the entire school day tomorrow.  Thank you and have a great evening.”
