WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — A driver is in custody after fleeing a traffic stop initiated by deputies in Whitfield County, according to a news release from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on Interstate 75 near mile marker 332 after discovering the car was displaying a stolen license plate assigned to a different vehicle. Authorities said the driver initially appeared to comply but then fled the scene in the vehicle.
The pursuit continued into neighboring Murray County, where the driver ultimately crashed at the intersection of Highway 225 and Smyrna Church Road.
Following the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies from both Whitfield and Murray counties pursued and apprehended the individual shortly afterward.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver or additional details about potential charges. Authorities say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
