DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — A Dawsonville man and military veteran has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following a family violence incident in April 2025 that resulted in a 25-count indictment.
According to Acting District Attorney for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit Jennifer Bagwell, Ryan Englert was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to all 25 counts.
Englert was 39 years old when the offenses occurred. The charges included:
There was no negotiated plea agreement between Englert and prosecutors.
Following the presentation of evidence, Assistant District Attorney Grant Shope asked Superior Court Judge Lindsay Burton to sentence Englert to 80 years in prison followed by 30 years of probation.
The defense requested a sentence of 10 years in prison followed by 20 years of probation.
Burton ultimately sentenced Englert to 25 years in prison followed by 35 years of probation.
As part of the sentence, Englert was ordered to have no contact with any victims or witnesses and was banished from both Hall and Dawson counties.
In a statement, Bagwell acknowledged Englert’s military service while emphasizing the seriousness of the offenses.
“Although our office recognizes the sacrifice this defendant made in his military service to this country, nothing can excuse violence against a child,” Bagwell said. “We appreciate the thoughtful sentence and feel like it speaks to the seriousness of this case.”
The case stemmed from the April 2025 family violence incident and was prosecuted in the Northeastern Judicial Circuit.
