Rep. Tom Graves Votes to Stop Planned Parenthood Funding, Protect Abortion Survivors

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Defund Planned Parenthood Act (H.R. 3134) and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 3504), legislation that places a moratorium on federal Planned Parenthood funding and protects survivors of abortion, respectively:

“Women should have access to excellent health care. It’s important to know that Georgia has 274 health clinics that meet the unique health care needs of women, but do not perform abortions. The legislation passed by the House today will not impact these clinics and will not limit a woman’s access to care. What we did today was act to protect babies who survive failed abortion procedures, ensuring they are treated as human beings and receive proper medical care. We also voted to prevent federal taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood in response to their horrifying practice of selling body parts of babies. My votes for these bills are votes to protect those who don’t have a voice and to protect the conscience of millions of people around the country who, like me, believe every baby – born and unborn – has the right to life.”

Additionally, Rep. Graves joined 126 colleagues last month in sending a letter to the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Fred Upton, and the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Bob Goodlatte, in support of their investigation of Planned Parenthood.
