Collins Statement on SCOTUS Hearing Arguments in Microsoft-Ireland Case

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in U.S. vs. Microsoft today, and Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) released the following statement in response:

“As the Supreme Court heard arguments today on whether U.S. law enforcement should be able to access data stored abroad, many comments from the bench added to the refrain from the Capitol—that this issue warrants Congressional action. Sen. Orrin Hatch and I have been joined by colleagues in our respective houses in introducing the bipartisan CLOUD Act to clarify law enforcement’s access to information held in overseas servers and to guard the privacy of cloud users. Before a Supreme Court decision in June further complicates an outdated law, Congress must act quickly on this legislation.”
