GDOL Veterans Workshops for August Scheduled in Toccoa and Cornelia

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will host its monthly workshops in the Georgia Mountain region to help veterans apply for benefits, receive counseling and move into the workforce. Workshops will be open to all veterans, their spouses and their caregivers.

The first workshop will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the GDOL’s Toccoa Career Center located at 37 Foreacre Street. A second workshop will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Habersham Career Center located at 215 Hodges Street in Cornelia.

Workshops will continue each month on Tuesdays and Thursdays of the third week, unless otherwise noted.
The workshops will include:

Job assistance. GDOL staff will be on site to assist veterans with resume writing and critiquing, employment counseling and job referrals.
Veterans benefits. Representatives from the Georgia Department of Veterans Services and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will provide one-on-one assistance and tips on how to apply for benefits.

Health insurance. A Georgia Association for Primary Health Care representative will explain the Affordable Health Care Act and Planning for Healthy Babies, a free health insurance program for women ages 18 to 44.

Lawrenceville Veterans Center. A representative from the center will discuss the services available to veterans and their families, and answer questions on such topics as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol and drug abuse, and marital and bereavement issues. The representative will also be available for one-on-one discussions.

Veterans should bring valid identification, including military ID cards or driver’s licenses, along with their resumes.
