ATLANTA – Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) career centers in Habersham and Stephens counties will host two workshops this month to help veterans apply for benefits, receive counseling and move into the workforce.
The first workshop will be held Wednesday, July 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the GDOL’s Habersham Career Center located at 215 Hodges St. in Cornelia. A second workshop will be held Thursday, July 21, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Toccoa Career Center located at 37 Foreacre St.
Topics at the workshops include:
Job assistance. GDOL staff will be on site to assist veterans with resume writing and critiquing, employment counseling and job referrals.
Veterans’ benefits information. Representatives from the Georgia Department of Veterans Services and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will provide one-on-one assistance and tips on how to apply for veterans benefits.
Health insurance information. A representative from the Georgia Association for Primary Health Care will explain the Affordable Health Care Act and Planning for Healthy Babies, a free health insurance program for women ages 18 to 44.
Lawrenceville Veterans Center. A representative from the center will provide counseling services for individual veterans and their families. The workshop includes marital and bereavement sessions, along with those on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol and drug abuse.
Job training opportunities. A representative from Goodwill of North Georgia will provide information on educational and job training programs offered through Goodwill.
Veterans should bring valid identification, including military ID cards and driver’s licenses, along with their resumes.
