PRESS RELEASE – On Friday, May 5, 2023, Deputy Jon Henderson was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane on East Side Drive in Tallapoosa. Deputy Henderson initiated a traffic stop on the 2006 Pontiac.

Deputy Henderson asked the driver of the vehicle if she had anything to drink and she said no, she was just tired.

Deputy Henderson then advised the driver that he could clearly smell marijuana coming out of the vehicle and she advised that she had just smoked marijuana and gave Deputy Henderson a bag of marijuana and a joint.

Deputy Jarrett Chandler backed up Deputy Henderson and he conducted Field Sobriety Testing while Deputy Henderson searched the vehicle.

An unmarked pill was found, and a small bag of suspected methamphetamine was located inside a small pouch on the vehicle keys.

Amanda Elizabeth Anders, a 56-year-old W/F out of Heflin, AL was arrested and charged with DUI Drugs, Failure to Maintain Lane, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana.

“When dangerous driving is observed, our deputies are trained to check on the driver. The driver may be tired, there may be a medical issue or there may be an impairment from alcohol or drugs as there was in this instance,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “Our deputies are always out there trying to make the roadways safer for the citizens of Haralson County.”
