STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. – Two individuals are in custody following a shots-fired incident Tuesday night at Stephens County High School, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at approximately 8 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2026, to reports of gunfire in the school’s student parking lot. At the time, School Resource Officers were on duty monitoring two sporting events when they were alerted to possible shots fired.
SROs, along with members of the Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit and school administrators, responded immediately to secure the campus and protect students, staff, and spectators. The school was placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes while deputies conducted interviews, gathered evidence, and reviewed surveillance footage.
Authorities declared the scene safe at approximately 8:30 p.m., and the lockdown was lifted. Investigators determined that the driver and passenger of a vehicle fired multiple shots in the parking lot before leaving campus. No injuries were reported.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified two suspects and obtained warrants charging both individuals with aggravated assault. On Feb. 11, both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Stephens County Jail. Officials said additional charges are pending.
“No student, parent, or teacher should have to fear going to school or sporting events. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior that endangers Stephens County students and families,” said Sheriff Rusty Fulbright. He added that he was proud of the coordinated response by deputies and school officials to ensure the safety of those on campus.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division tip line at (706) 886-7048, the non-emergency dispatch line at (706) 779-3911, or submit a tip through the agency’s mobile app.
