Traffic Stop Leads to Major Methamphetamine Seizure in Haralson County, Georgia

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. – A traffic stop conducted by a deputy with the Haralson County Crimes Suppression Unit resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine and the arrest of a Douglasville man, authorities said.

According to officials, Sgt. Sam Swanger was on concentrated patrol on Thursday, March 19, 2026, when he observed a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations, including illegal window tint and a taillight infraction.

During the stop, Sgt. Swanger was assisted by Sgt. Jarrett Chandler and K-9 Tora. Although the driver consented to a search of the vehicle, deputies also conducted a free-air sniff. K-9 Tora alerted to the presence of narcotics.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately two kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, according to authorities.

The case has been turned over to the Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force for further investigation.

The driver, identified as Jonathan Dewayne Bright, 60, of Douglasville, Georgia, was arrested and charged with felony trafficking in methamphetamine.

No additional details have been released as the investigation continues.
