Sheriff’s deputy shot on the job in Hall County

HALL COUNTY, GA  – On Oct. 25, a Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot while conducting an investigation, after a 911 call was placed ‘reporting a vehicle stopped in the middle of F. Gilmer Road just off Highway 52 in Hall County’.

One man died as a result of the altercation that involved two individuals. and GBI is now investigating the event as an officer involved shooting.

“A Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived on scene and found a man and woman standing outside of the car,” according to the report. “During the investigation, a man identified as Javier Manuel Soto, age 25, of Gainesville, GA pulled a weapon, firing multiple shots at the deputy and hitting the deputy in his duty belt. The deputy fired multiple times, hitting and killing Soto.”

According to the GBI report, no other officers were injured.

After the deputy shot Soto, the woman ‘ran from the scene into the woods’ but luckily other officers quickly arrived on the scene and found the woman. After they were able to locate the woman, she was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

“The GBI will conduct an independent investigation…Once complete, the file will be given to the Hall County District Attorney’s Office for review,” stated the report.

This is the 97thofficer involved shooting the GBI has been asked to investigate in 2022.
