PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. – Last night, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call on Jay Moss Lane in Talking Rock, GA that led to an open exchange of gunfire and one deceased.
The caller stated that his neighbor’s house was on fire and that gunfire could be heard coming from the home.
Deputies from Pickens County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the house on fire near midnight and made contact with Frank Jerry Millsapps, 65, of Talking Rock, GA.
Millsapps was armed with a shotgun when deputies arrived and he was given commands to put the gun down.
“Millsapps refused and begin walking toward the deputies. He pointed the gun at the deputies, at which time gunfire was exchanged between Millsapps and the deputies. Millsapps was pronounced deceased at the scene. It was also learned that Millsapps had shot at a neighbor prior to deputies arriving at the home,” according to The Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Today, the GBI has been asked by Pickens County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
Upon completion of the investigation, it will be given to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review.
No other individuals were injured during the incident.
