NWS suggests more winter weather for Floyd County

ROME, Ga. – The Floyd County Georgia Emergency Management organization posted to their social media account a statement from the National Weather Service (NWS), suggesting more winter weather could occur going into this weekend.
From the NWS 1/19/22 – Potential winter weather event Late Thursday through early Saturday.
Light Snow and/or Light Freezing Rain Northeast Georgia
What: Rain mixing with or changing to light snow and light freezing rain. Total snow accumulation up to 1 inch with higher amounts possible in higher elevations. Ice accumulation less than 0.05 inches.
When: Onset of light winter precipitation late Thursday night continuing Friday and Friday night.
Where: Much of Northeast Georgia. See maps below.

Light Freezing Rain East Central Georgia
What: Rain mixing with or changing to light freezing rain. Total ice accumulation up to 0.10 inches.
When: Onset of light winter precipitation late Thursday night continuing Friday into early Saturday.
Where: East Central Georgia including east ATL metro.

Other threats
• Refreezing of liquid water, or “black ice”, is likely across much of north Georgia and middle Georgia Friday night and Saturday morning. Temperatures will rise above freezing by noon in all but the mountain areas on Saturday.
