PRESS RELEASE – SCSO Deputies Arrest Subject Following Monday Night Manhunt

At approximately 5:51 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Whispering Woods area of Martin in reference to a disturbance.

While heading to the call, deputies were informed that the male caller and female homeowner were being threatened by a male subject with a knife. As they arrived on scene, deputies learned the subject no longer had the knife and may have fled on foot behind the home after hearing the victims call 911.

According to the victims (who will remain unnamed), the two males were in a physical altercation prior to the call for help. The male caller stated that the male subject, identified as Clinton Miller, 48 of Athens, had recently been allowed to stay in the home but overstayed his welcome. When the caller confronted Miller, the subject became aggressive. Following the physical altercation, Miller grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began waving it at the male and female.

Deputies cleared the house for Miller and determined that he had fled. Deputies with the K-9 Unit arrived on scene. K-9s Reba then Lady both attempted to track Miller to no avail, while another deputy flew a drone in the area, attempting to gain an overhead view of the subject. Deputies placed a ping on a phone in Miller’s possession and began to conduct a search within a large radius. However, they were unable to make contact with Miller. At around 9:30 p.m., the search was called as deputies believed Miller had been picked up on a roadway where the track went cold.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. yesterday, Nov. 12, S.T.I.N.G. deputies received a tip that Miller was inside the home he fled from the night before. At this time, Miller had a warrant for his arrest on an Aggravated Assault charge. Having permission to enter the home, deputies were able to clear the home and apprehend Miller without incident.

Miller was transported to the Stephens County Jail where he remains on a $20,000 bond. He has also received a temporary restraining order from the superior court on behalf of the male victim.
