When the deputies arrived, they found four horses that appeared very malnourished and one horse on the ground unable to stand.
Deputies contacted Haralson County Animal Control who came to the scene in this investigation, the animal owner was not home at this time.
During the initial investigation, one deceased horse was found inside the barn along with the others and deputies contacted the on-call investigator to come to the scene.
The animal owner, Ulas Bolan, did come back to his property during the investigation. Animal Control contacted Johnny Cook who came and got the four standing horses, the one on the ground was too far gone and had to be put down.
Sgt. Mullenix began the investigation into this case along with animal control, and he also received assistance from equine investigators in Cobb County Georgia.
The first night, the four living horses drank 25 gallons of water.
Over the next few weeks, under the expert care of Mr. Cook, the horses have begun to gain weight and their coats are looking healthy.
We would like to thank Mr. Johnny Cook for stepping up to rescue these horses who were in such bad shape.
After a careful and thorough investigation, Sgt. Mullenix secured warrants against Bolan. On November 22, 2023, he was taken into custody by deputies.
Ulas Dudley Bolan, a 63-year-old W/M out of Bremen, GA was charged with two counts of Felony Cruelty to Animals and four counts of Cruelty to Animals.
