Lumpkin County Woman Arrested in nearly $400,000 Finance Department Theft Investigation

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. – A Lumpkin County woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of nearly $400,000 from the county’s finance department, according to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Stacy M. Jarrard said investigators were notified on Nov. 4, 2025, of a theft of funds from the Lumpkin County Finance Department. Authorities determined that $399,416.33 had been stolen in violation of Georgia law under the charge of felony theft by deception.

The case was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. As a result of the investigation, officials were able to recover $100,008.96 of the stolen funds and identify a suspect.

Investigators identified the offender as 52-year-old Magdalena Magadan. She was located in Orlando, Florida, where she was taken into custody by Florida law enforcement. Following her arrest, the extradition process was initiated, and Magadan was transferred to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on Jan. 14, 2026.

Magadan has been formally charged with felony theft by deception. During her first court appearance, she was denied bond.

The case remains under the jurisdiction of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.
