Leonard Higdon found dead after BOLO alert

Gilmer County, Ga. – The ‘Be on the lookout’ (BOLO) alert for Leonard Higdon has officially been called off after he has been found dead in North Dakota.

Higdon was originally issued a bolo on Oct. 8, after it was discovered he had ties to Gilmer and Fannin Counties.

He was wanted for his connection to  a brutal attack that took place in Williston, North Dakota on Sept. 29th.

At the time of his death he had the following active warrants for his arrest:Criminal Attempt/Murder; Aggravated Assault; Criminal Trespass; Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer; Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

According to the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, they first responded to an unattended body on Oct. 28 in a field to an area north of Williston.

Upon their arrival, they discovered a male body that appeared to be deceased.

“On November 1, 2022, the North Dakota Medical Examiners Office contacted the Williams County Sheriff’s Office to report that the unidentified body found north of Williston on October 28, 2022 has been confirmed as 51-year-old Leonard Higdon. Dental records were used for the positive identification of Higdon. Manner of death has been ruled as a suicide,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
