High speed chase in Haralson County

PRESS RELEASE – On Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 9:56 AM, deputies were dispatched to Corinth Poseyville Road in reference to a stolen vehicle.

At 11:15 AM, a deputy spotted the stolen 2016 Dodge Challenger on GA Highway 120 in the area of Highway 113.

That deputy, Investigator Sean Chastain, initiated a traffic stop and the car failed to stop and increased its speed, leading Deputies in a pursuit.

Patrol deputies along with members of the Crime Suppression Unit and Investigators were involved in the pursuit that went into Paulding County, into Carroll County and back into Haralson County reaching speeds of over 120 miles per hour.

During this high-speed chase, other agencies were notified of what was happening and moved in to assist.

The pursuit went back into Carroll County on US Highway 78 and was stopped just inside Temple City Limits when Carroll County Sheriff’s Office blocked US Highway 78.

Steven Allen Freemen, a 45-year-old W/M out of Carrollton, GA was arrested and is facing charges of Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Felony Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude plus multiple other traffic offenses.

“I am proud of the effort made by multiple Divisions within the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office to stop this career felon and recover this stolen vehicle,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “I would like to thank the Temple Police Department, Bremen Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for helping us get this career felon stopped with no major damage to the vehicle. I would also like to thank any other agency that was moving to assist us in our time of need. The teamwork we have between local departments and other agencies in this area is unbelievable, but very much appreciated.”
