Calhoun man arrested for DUI after fatally hitting group of motorcycles
Featured Stories September 21, 2023 , by Emma DunnGORDON COUNTY, Ga. – On Sunday, Sept. 17, a hit and run occurred on GA 61, where the driver of a Ford F-150 struck three motorcycles, severely injuring multiple people and fatally injuring at least one person.
The driver, later identified as 73-year-old Ronald Grady Dickson, was traveling at a high rate of speed going northbound when he struck the drivers in the rear.
One of the motorcycles became embedded in the front of the truck; however, Grady continued to travel northbound and did not stop until Police were able to stop the truck approximately six miles north of the crash site.
GA 61 was shut down for nearly three hours following the crash that took place at 2:00 p.m.
“Three motorcycle riders were flown to different trauma centers by Life Force. Two were transported by ambulance. One of the motorcycle riders died as a result of this crash,” according to the Georgia Stare Patrol Public Information Office.
Grady was returned to the scene by Fairmount Police and then subsequently arrested.
He has been charged with the following:
One count of DUI; one count of first degree Homicide by Vehicle (felony); three counts of Hit and Run; four counts of Serious Injury by Vehicle; three counts of Following Too Closely; Reckless Driving and Driving on Roadways Laned for Traffic.
