FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. —  County commissioners cleared the path for specialty pharmacies that will be authorized to sell medical marijuana in Forsyth County during Thursday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

It took several months for staff to write a definition that clearly defines the difference between a full-service pharmacy like a Walgreens or CVS that sells a variety of pharmaceuticals and requires a licensed pharmacist to be on the premises during all business hours.

A specialty pharmacy is licensed by the state to sell medical marijuana and does not include a retail establishment that contains a bonafide full-service pharmacy that dispenses pharmaceuticals and requires a licensed pharmacist to be on hand during all business hours.

Specialty pharmacies can now apply to Forsyth County for a conditional use permit. (CUP) to operate.
