BANKS COUNTY, Ga. – A 9-year-old boy in Banks County is recovering from a bobcat attack he endured over the weekend.
Easton Burchett had to be rushed to the hospital where he received 14 stitches and rabies shots after his surprise encounter with a bobcat in Banks County.
According to media reports, 9-year-old Easton Burchett and and his father drove to a neighbor’s house to take care of their dog.
When Easton and his father exited the car, within seconds, a bobcat lunched at Easton from under a parked Jeep.
Easton’s mother, Amy Burchett, shared the terrifying experience on social media later that evening stating, “Well this maybe be crazy but Easton got attacked by a bobcat tonight…”
Easton’s father Wes Burchett witnessed the attached and spoke with other media sources saying the attack was ‘just like a flash of light’.
Easton told media officials that he was punching the cat to try and get it off of him all while the cat was biting and cause deep gashes to his legs.
Easton’s father then grabbed the cat and threw it, hitting the jeep.
The bobcat continued to be aggressive and that is when Wes pulled out a pistol and shot the animal, killing it.
After the attack, the Burchetts contacted the county to follow further instruction with the incident protocols and they were told that the bobcat had to be tested for rabies.
According to media sources, the Burchetts were frusterated with the lack of protocols for situations like these after no one from the county came to get the animal until Monday Evening.
Amy Burchett told the media “I just want better actions in case something like this happens to somebody else.”
Now, Banks County officials are discussing putting better protocols in place after what happened to Easton.
