JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. – Investigators in Jackson County have filed additional charges against two individuals previously arrested in connection with a four-year-old child’s alleged cocaine overdose.
According to posts from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, February 23, Sheena Dawn Shumake, 35, and Joshua Tyler Shumake, 33, are now facing charges of possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of drug-related objects, and a failure to appear warrant.
The new charges follow their initial arrests on Friday, February 20, when both were charged with first-degree cruelty to children. Authorities said investigators executed a search warrant at the couple’s residence following the reported overdose of the four-year-old.
Few additional details about the child’s condition or the circumstances surrounding the overdose have been released.
The sheriff’s office previously stated that multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the Georgia State Patrol, West Jackson Fire Department, Georgia Division of Family & Children Services, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
