The 14th Annual Night of Lights

The 14th Annual Night of Lights lit up Jasper Georgia tonight. In a time of social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizer, There was no damper on the holiday spirit as the community showed up to support Christmas in the downtown area of Jasper. The 14th Annual Night of Lights sponsored by The Jasper Merchants Association featured the lighting of the tree and the parade. http://jasperjma.com.

The theme of the parade was “Peanuts, A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The event started at Stegall Drive and made its way down Main street. Due to health and safety concerns in regards to COVD-19, Spectators participated in the City’s first drive-through parade. However, celebrations were still as festive as ever and carried the hometown tradition of ringing in the holiday season while acting responsibly in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

A Virtual Tree lighting was shared online for the community of Jasper to participate in via KnowPickens. Santa made his entrance waving to spectators, but there were no pictures due to safety concerns for all. Toys for Tots were among those in attendance and collected donations for children in the community in need of help during this holiday season.

The Pickens County High School band and drill team played and danced to a variety of Christmas songs while celebrating the spectacular lighting of the tree. In addition,  The Pickens County Courthouse maintained the holiday tradition of displaying the beautiful nativity scene directly in front of the building.

Local merchants and restaurants participated by keeping their establishments open for those in the community choosing to celebrate the spirit of Christmas by purchasing local goods and services.

A festive time was had by all. The Jasper Merchants Association and The City of Jasper did a wonderful job by providing the opportunity for bringing the joy of the holiday season to the citizens of Pickens County and Jasper.
